Question by Irish girl:

What is the appropriate age to have the sex talk with your daughter? My daughter is a very mature age 9.?

Recently on a show she was watching the word "sex" came up. She looked right at me, and asked what it was. I was not expecting that at all. I don't want to be the kind of mother who keeps beating around the bush and I want her to know I will always answer any questions she has for me. Any advice???

The appropriate time is when they start to ask questions. You don't have to get graphic or anything but I don't think that's too young. I think I started asking questions around that age and my mom always talked to me about things when I asked. It really helped me growing up and kept an open dialogue with my mother up into my teens.
